Whitetail Deer Physical Description

The weight of a male whitetail can range from 130-300+ lbs. depending on area.  Body length can range from 52-95 inches.  Female whitetails are typically smaller in size and have an average weight of 90-210 lbs.

The whitetail has two seasonal coats. The spring/summer coat is reddish brown, and relatively short, with a thin and wiry hair texture.  The winter coat is more a grayish brown with heavy, long guard hairs and a thick undercoat that provides excellent insulation.  White fur is located in a band behind the nose, around the eyes, inside the ears, over the chin and throat, on the upper insides of the legs and beneath the tail.  A major characteristic is the white tail or flag which it typically raises as a sign of alarm.
